Interior condition
Tasteful interior in dark red leather with fabric mats in good condition, showing mild wear consistent with the car’s age and mileage. Door panels, trim, and headliner are in the same condition. The steering wheel, instruments, controls, and buttons are in good condition and functioning well, though with some slight stickiness. Instrument lighting works intermittently.
-
Exterior condition
Glossy paintwork, likely original. There are small stone chips and scratches, but it’s in good condition considering its age and mileage. Glass, plastic, rubber, lighting details, and emblems are on the same level. The wheels are in great condition, and the tires match the overall quality of the car. Both the engine bay and trunk area are in excellent condition.

General condition
Maserati is a name steeped in tradition but also marked by complex ownership structures and some downturns in its history. However, since the turn of the millennium, they have reclaimed their position among sports and GT cars. The Coupé 4200 is a quick and delightful Grand Routier, reminiscent of the brand’s golden era. This car is in great condition and stands as a worthy heir, a future classic, and a true enthusiast’s car.

Facts about the model
In the late 1960s, financial difficulties arose, and Citroën became a shareholder, eventually taking full ownership in 1971. The Citroën SM model was a product of this partnership, but it also led to a disastrous financial situation, which ended with the French brand being acquired by Peugeot and Maserati falling into the hands of Argentine industrialist and race car driver Alejandro de Tomaso, with support from an Italian state-owned company.
After a tough period during the oil crisis of the 1970s, Maserati’s new owners decided that the brand’s golden era of small-series Grand Tourer production should take a back seat to a focus on a smaller car with a 2-liter engine for mass production. This move aimed to compete with the successful BMWs in the same class and save the company’s financial future. The new Maserati Biturbo cars were produced between 1982 and 1994, designed by Pierangelo Andreani.
By 1984, Chrysler had acquired a 5% stake in the company, and as Maserati struggled with large losses, they turned to Fiat for help. Fiat, now in partnership with Chrysler, stepped in and later sold 50% of Maserati to its subsidiary Ferrari. From 1999, Maserati became wholly owned by Ferrari. The first model launched after this was the 3200 GT, known for its distinctive boomerang-shaped rear lights. It was, in fact, Maserati’s first new model in over fifteen years following the Biturbo era. The design was penned by the iconic Giorgetto Giugiaro, and the new car was a significant departure from the designs of the previous decades, harking back to Maserati’s pre-oil crisis golden era.
The model was upgraded in 2002 when the new Maserati Coupé took over. Designed by Italdesign, it was more of an evolution. However, under the hood now lay a Ferrari-designed engine, the same as in the 430 but without a turbo. With fuel injection, it still produced 390 horsepower.
