"It's amazing to be back in the driver's seat of an RS Cosworth; this one has a lot of history from Germany and Sweden, as well as a lot of money spent on it over the years. It runs and drives smoothly, and it features a powerful drivetrain that has been tuned to produce between 350 and 380 horsepower."

Description

This car was delivered to its first owner in Dirmstein, Germany, in 1993 and was imported into Sweden in 2001. During its time in Sweden, it was well maintained and comes with numerous older inspection reports, as well as its Germany service history, which confirms the mileage today is 182000 km. The car was purchased three years ago by a German collector and remained registered in Sweden while in his collection in Germany. The car has had a lot of work done in Sweden, and the receipts total far more than 100,000kr. The engine is built around its 200 block with CP pistons and original piston rods. Weighted and balanced and rebuilt the head by Kenneths Motor . Camshafts with adjustable cam gears. Crankcase ventilation was reworked using a Forge crankcase outlet. The turbo is original, but GIK Turbo rebuilt it with new internal parts (impeller, bearings, etc.). (Receipt of over 17,000) 3" exhaust system with FIA-approved racing cat and 2 mongoose silencers. Original weber/marelli injector with 788cc injector, mapped to 1.5 bar by "RimboMartin". Charges about 1.3 today. Bosch 040 fuel pump in the tank. RS500 intercooler, Samco hose to the entire engine. Vibratech engine + gearbox mount. Sachs pressure plate reinforced with organic clutch FIXIT gearbox. The car produces 350-380 hp and at 5-6000 rpm when the turbo kicks in, and the dump valve sounds awesome when shifting gears. The car comes with extensive documentation and receipts (see photos).

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car runs and drives well, feels tight, and has plenty of power under the hood; it hasn't been driven much in recent years, and it was recently serviced before being brought back to Sweden. Tyres and alloy wheels in good condition with slight curbing markings "see pictures".

  • Interior condition

The interior is in fine shape, with nice leather seats and only slight wear on the driver's seat. The headliner appears to be in good condition and appears to have been replaced. Excellent instrumentation with little pixelation on the digital clock and two small screw holes in the dashboard from an older mobile phone holder, decent carpets, and a functional tilt and slide sunroof.

  • Exterior condition

The paintwork was most likely repainted at some point because it is in such good shape. A 5 cm touch-up scratch on the rear spoiler and a few small stone chips on the bonnet. "See photo" for scuffs on the front spoiler. The bodywork is in excellent condition, with no evidence of corrosion or rust, and the underbody is spotless. The glasswork is excellent and devoid of defects.

  • General condition

Because they only produced roughly 7000 cars between 1992 and 1996, and I'm sure the last one you saw on the road was in the early 2000s, now is the time to get one before the costs climb even further!

Facts about the model

The car was a further development of the Ford Escort RS1600, which had a strong motorsport heritage. The Escort RS Cosworth 2.0 had a four-cylinder turbocharged engine of 2.0 liters that produced 227 horsepower, which was impressive for its time. It could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and had a top speed of 232 km/h.

The car was not only fast, it was also designed to withstand tough rally conditions. The chassis was upgraded to handle rough terrain, and it had four-wheel drive to give the driver maximum grip on the road. The Escort RS Cosworth 2.0 was also equipped with powerful brakes and shock absorbers, making it a very capable car in all conditions.

In terms of appearance, the car was very distinctive, with a large roof spoiler, wide wheel arches, and unique rims. It was hard to miss an Escort RS Cosworth 2.0 on the road, and the car quickly became a symbol of high-performance rally cars.
