"Once again, I have the privilege of seeing one of these low-mileage cars in exquisite original condition, almost taking your breath away. The current owner has meticulously cared for this vehicle over the years. He has not only cherished his car but also added a personal touch with some extra decals. Apart from a stainless steel exhaust system and a tow hitch, it appears to be completely original, with an interior scent reminiscent of a newer car. A custom-fitted cover has been in place all these years. One seat was carefully removed for photography, and it looks just as good as the rest of the car. The car has been stationary since August 2007, but a friendly neighbor (car mechanic) has helped with inspection and maintenance over the years and now with the startup, service measures, and inspection. In this practical and classic Volvo, you feel right at home."

Description

This car was registered for traffic on January 30, 1997, and was acquired by the second owner a year later. For him, it was a dream car. As such, he treated and maintained it meticulously. Always stored in a heated garage, never driven in winter, and only used for special occasions, always with 98 octane in the tank. The everyday car was a Volvo 245. He equipped the car with a Ferrita stainless steel exhaust system (3 inches up to the catalytic converter and 2.5 inches thereafter) to preserve the car in the best way possible and to add some extra speed and sound. It’s uncertain whether the car also received a chip upgrade. A custom-fitted original cover has been in place since the purchase. The car also comes with original Volvo protective mats in the cabin and trunk, and virtually unused textile protective mats. The same applies to the privacy cover in the trunk. There is also an original tool kit. The car is equipped with a newer Pioneer stereo.
The car comes with an instruction manual, brochure, and some handy little gadgets. Inspected but currently deregistered.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Started easily and ran well in both the engine and drivetrain. During a calm test drive, the car performed smoothly and flawlessly. The clutch, gearbox, steering, and brakes, all in good condition. Everything appears to be working well. Not checked on a lift, but from what could be seen, the underside of the car was in unusually good condition. At the last inspection, it received “standing ovations” from the staff.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in an incredibly fine and well-preserved original condition. This includes door panels, panels, carpets, seats, back seat, trunk, headliner, dashboard, steering wheel, and controls. There was a hint of the “classic wrinkles” on the top edge of the front doors near the side windows. Newer Pioneer stereo. All electrical functions appear to work well.

  • Exterior condition

The paintwork (606 Forest Green/Classic Green) is in fine condition with depth and luster. Glass, rubber, plastic, and lighting details are also in fine condition. Minimal scratches and stone chips, no visible door dings. The rims are fine and the discs are in unusually good condition. The tires are fine but older. The engine compartment is also in very fine and well-preserved original condition.

  • General condition

A few premium cars have been preserved and have survived in fine condition. However, it’s relatively unique for a family and utility vehicle to have fared so well over the years. An enthusiastic owner is now passing the baton to the next enthusiast. This car, its history, and condition mean it has now shed the label of “sossecontainer” and qualifies as a delightful classic and enthusiast’s car. It evokes a sense of nostalgia as well as Swedish automotive history, not just over the past 25 years, but back to another millennium - significant! Once again, we see that “Volvo’s value lasts.”

Facts about the model

The Volvo 940 was introduced for the 1991 model year as the natural successor to the previous 740 version, while the premium version 760 became the 960. The different versions resembled each other, but the 960, in its various forms, was the company’s flagship model and was more upscale, including six-cylinder engines. The Volvo 940 and 960 had a high safety level for their time, featuring driver and passenger airbags, ABS, and traction control.
Since the 940 model was largely a further development of previous models, it used proven technology that rarely caused problems. With the light-pressure turbo (designated as LTT), there was plenty of torque available at low RPMs.
When the 900 series eventually ended, we left behind the era of rear-wheel drive cars from Volvo and stepped into a new millennium. It was possibly also the last “people’s home car”.
